An Economic Platform for the State of Florida

Blueprint for Economic Success

Just over two years ago, I started the Business Growth Trends project to help small businesses stay afloat and small business owners learn to recognize where potential was found.  Many of the articles and advice are still available on www.BusinessGrowthTrends.com.  I encourage every business owner to go through the archives for expert advice on almost all aspects of running a business.

South Florida’s unemployment levels are above the national average.  Given all that the State of Florida has to offer small business, this is hard to believe.  It’s nothing short of insane that we haven’t managed to do more about this.

Small business used to be the bedrock of our jobs market.  And we were a lot better off when it was.  The State of Florida has more to offer budding businesses than almost any other state in the nation.  As Michigan and New York falter under high taxation and shrinking growth, Florida should be absorbing the lion’s share of business emigration.  But we’re not.  And here’s why:

LOOK WHERE THE PROBLEMS LIE – AND FIX THEM

1) We Don’t Ask for Business

First and foremost, the major problem that challenges Florida’s economic expansion is so simple that everyone misses it.  Decision makers in corporate boardrooms, when discussing relocation, think of Arizona and the opportunities presented there.  They discuss New Mexico’s unused resources, and so on.  Florida isn’t brought to the table.  In fact, people in the Northeast and in states like Michigan still think of Florida as being synonymous with hurricanes, even though our natural disasters are far less of a problem than those faced by other states.

We need to change this dynamic.

Other countries, with far less favorable business and taxation environments, advertise in business magazines and on well watched business shows.  Their advertising pays off.

Few states in the nation have as favorable a business structure as Florida does and few places in the world can offer as much talent for employers to choose from.  But nobody knows about it.  Worse, those who do don’t think of it.

Targeted ads, that list all of what Florida has to offer, to Michigan based businesses and other areas from which business is fleeing, will pay off.  It will change the dynamic and get people talking.  It will get corporate boards and decision makers talking.  That, in turn, breeds results.

2)  Incentives

Tax breaks to C corporations that wish to move into recession stricken areas (areas with an unemployment rate of greater than 10% or that have seen a 15% drop in economic activity) will be the deal clincher in garnering new business to Florida.

3) Education

Business skills and financial literacy need to become a part of Florida’s public high school curriculum.  I wrote a course on this subject, which was approved by the Broward County School Board and used by the United Way.  We need to ensure that some kind of business knowledge is taught in Florida schools, in ways that students can relate to.  Doing so has the added benefit of giving students clear reasons to finish school and to avoid crime.

4) Energy/Untapped Resources – Key to Florida’s Economic Development

Florida Atlantic University has been working on developing energy from the ocean.  Wave technology as well as other natural water based forms of energy technology are areas that must be developed.  The Northeast has used water-based electricity for decades and FAU and its Center for Ocean Energy Technology are leading the way in making this resource more efficient and reliable.

Ocean based energy is renewable, clean and cost effective.  Its development should go in tandem with all other forms of sustainable and sensible energy development, including oil drilling (especially given the fact other nations are already drilling as closely to our shores as they can, without the protections to our coasts that we would enact).

Energy, agriculture and health innovation are key to the redevelopment of Florida’s economy and to bringing jobs to the state.  There’s no reason why anyone should be moving away from Florida.  We can easily harness our potential and revitalize the state.

5) Transportation vs. Wasteful Spending

Transportation projects need to make sense, be cost effective and streamline traffic in areas where congestion is an actual problem.  Pure jobs creation projects can focus on other areas, first among them teaching – which is an investment in Florida’s future.  Streamlining of transportation and solidification of existing bridges and similar structures are necessary works.  We just have to be careful and sensible about where resources are spent.

Construction efforts can be augmented by using alternative sentencing for non-violent offenders.  Doing so would not only save costs to the struggling construction industry, it would prevent first time offenders from become career criminals, leave them with hope and incentive to change and punish only the criminal, as opposed to the criminal’s family.  It’s a recipe for a better society, plain and simple.  And as always, doing the right thing makes economic sense too.

Government cannot and should not take over the free market.  Not now and not ever.  What government can do is use common sense free market principles to bring business and jobs to the state.  This is what I propose to do.

All in all, we need to get back to the same small business based economy that helped propel America and the State of Florida to economic greatness.  Civic mindedness and personal responsibility, not to mention passion and ingenuity, are best fostered in a climate of small business.  As we struggle to come back to our founding principles of faith, family and good neighborliness, small business has an integral role to play in the above.

AND I’LL DO MY PART – AS A CANDIDATE AND THEN AS YOUR REPRESENTATIVE

I didn’t wait to get elected (or even want to get elected) when I wrote a business literacy / motivational course for teens to stay in school and got it approved by the school board.  I’m not going to wait to get elected to do my part in helping alleviate South Florida’s unemployment crisis either.

A week and a half ago, I announced a Jobs Fair for the district, along with a list that immediately blasts offers to jobseekers.  I encourage everyone who can to take part.  Employers get in front of politically/civically inclined applicants and prospective employees are quickly made aware of job options within the district and its surrounding areas.

The details are as follows:

YOMIN POSTELNIK FOR DISTRICT 91 BRINGING JOBS TO SOUTH FLORIDA THROUGH HANDS ON INNOVATION

JOBS FAIR

•Employers – Email Job Openings to jobs@abetterflorida.com

•Job Seekers – Sign up for updates on jobs by emailing jobs@abetterflorida.com

•Attend a live Jobs Fair on Mar. 17th

South Florida Jobs Fair

A Public Service to Stimulate Jobs in South Florida - the Republican Way

My campaign will be hosting a two part jobs fair to bring jobs to people in the district and strengthen local businesses by introducing them to qualified applicants.

PART 1

Streamlining Technology to Combat Unemployment

The 1st part is an effective and fully functional way to connect local business owners with local job seekers.  In this process, the confidentiality of the job seeker is assured.  The job seeker sends an email (preferably with a resume, so we can narrow down areas of interest) to jobs@abetterflorida.com.  They then get on a list to receive all available job updates.

Employers looking for qualified local job candidates (after all, this service is only being circulated among the politically active or those who read up on local news), send a description of the job offer to jobs@abetterflorida.com.  The job with the employer's contact info is then sent to the list of prospective employees.

This is a fast, streamlined and effective process, the goal of which is to immediately connect employees with prospective employers.

PART 2

Live Fair and Interviews

Local employers will be offered the opportunity to participate in a live face to face job fair on Wed. Mar. 17th to be held at Campaign HQ at 4699 N. Federal Hwy. in Lighthouse Point from 6-8 pm.  Prospective employees will be invited to sit down with all employers during that time.

To participate please email jobs@abetterflorida.com.  For additional information, please email info@abetterflorida.com or call (954) 353-5955.

OTHER EVENTS

We’ll be announcing the launch of our ground war later in the week.  Stay tuned for this and sign up for updates by emailing info@abetterflorida.com.

Friends,

First a quick update - Haitian relief efforts continue. Last night, Yomin helped a Broward businessman successfully reunite the family of 5 year old Gancci Saintelus as he continues his months of therapy. They plan on going back to Haiti in mid-spring.

This Sun. Jan. 24, Yomin will meet with volunteers at Campaign HQ 4699 N. Federal Hwy, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064. We'll meet up in the parking lot in the back at 12:45pm. Then walk with Yomin throughout the District. This is also your chance to talk with him about local or state issues or even about his insights on federal politics.

Yomin is the most effective, down the line conservative candidate anywhere on the state level and the greatest recruitment asset for Republicans anywhere in the state. Help Yomin win 91 and reinvigorate the GOP with bold ideas and service that embodies Republican excellence.

See you there on Sun.!

Coalition of GOP Candidates Team Up to Save Lives in Haiti

On Tuesday night, devastation struck the island of Haiti.  As soon as news broke, candidates Bernard Sansaricq and Yomin Postelnik and Central Florida candidate Commander Tom Garcia got in touch to plan an effective relief effort.  They discussed what most immediate relief needs were.

At the end of the night, Tom Garcia located a water purification expert who had previously done disaster relief, loaded up a Cessna and flew into Haiti on the spot.  Sansaricq and Postelnik organized drop off locations and relief efforts, with plans for future trips in the works.  Sansaricq met with local Haitian leaders as Postelnik established a virtual hotline, providing phone numbers of established task forces to those with families in Haiti.

At the same time, two party chairmen put forward valiant efforts to assist with the crisis. Broward GOP Chairman Chip LaMarca spent an entire day coordinating relief efforts with Tallahassee.  At one point, he even made his personal office the central drop off point for East Broward.  Palm Beach GOP Chairman Sid Dinerstein met with Haitian leaders, encouraging them and promoting relief efforts.  Both chairs have shown an unprecedented level of leadership throughout the crisis.

On Wednesday morning, candidate Ed Lynch, rallied his entire campaign team.  In spite of being weeks away from a primary election, his staff decided to put everything on hold.  Ed worked to get tickets to go to Haiti and the campaign turned their headquarters into a drop off location for food and supplies.

Candidate Robert Lowry secured 6 tickets to travel to Haiti and planned to make the trip down there. He also helped coordinate medical relief supplies and needs.  Candidate Dennis Lamb stayed in touch with local Haitian clergy, offering to assist in any way.

In the meantime, Sansaricq was placing calls to Haitian leaders both on the island and in South Florida.  Calls were placed demanding that Haitian refugees be given temporary status within the Bahamas.  Unbeknownst to the campaign, the pressure worked.

Postelnik and a campaign volunteer were busy advising local businessman Marc Eisenmann, who was preparing to travel to Haiti to offer relief.  Postelnik prepared a list of supplies, as well as a list of what not to bring, advising relief volunteers not to wear jewelry or bright clothing. At the same time, his line, made public in a press release, was flooded with calls from people seeking the numbers of agencies to locate family members on the island, as well as requests to establish drop off centers.

Garcia went on to deliver electricity to a three room clinic, making power out of four car batteries and an inverter.  He also delivered food and helped administer medical relief to hundreds, while working hard with relief expert Joe Hurston on water purification.

In the meantime, Eisenmann, guided by Postelnik, traveled throughout the Port au Prince area. Eisenmann came upon a crumbling building with children and adults stuck in it.  Speaking with Postelnik for at least some form of guidance, Eisenmann managed to pull two people out of the structure.  Republican leader Chad Lincoln also helped with construction knowledge and advice.

Late on Thursday night, Eisenmann came across a five year old boy with a shattered arm and a hematoma. Postelnik, the only point of contact, worked frantically to find a doctor to talk Eisenmann through the situation. When calls to two physicians didn’t work, Postelnik reached out to his network on twitter.  Karin Hoffman and Lowry campaign manager Chris Leggatt worked to locate a neurosurgeon.

The boy was airlifted to Miami.  Postelnik visited the boy and his father on Sunday, and appealed to the media to help reunite the family.  The boy and his father plan on returning to Haiti, where they led a relatively successful life, upon the completion of treatment.  Marc Eisenmann has agreed to house the family for the months of therapy that are needed.

On Friday Postelnik assembled a small team of volunteers.  Later in the day, he worked to help the owner of a cargo ship that was having trouble unloading relief supplies in Haiti.

When one of the volunteers got stranded, efforts were coordinated with Sheela Venero of Sen. LeMieux’ office, the office of Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Chairman Chip LaMarca to help redirect him to Port au Prince.  These efforts were successful.

Throughout this time, Bernard Sansaricq kept reaching out to Haitian leaders and candidates Ed Lynch and Robert Lowry organized another mission to Haiti.

On Saturday night, Commander Tom Garcia flew home with a two year old girl in need of follow up medical care, at the behest of a Haitian orphanage.  Airport workers asked for follow up documentation, but the girl was held in limbo for over seven hours.

Garcia telephoned Postelnik, who mobilized a team to reach out to elected officials.  State Senator and candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture Carey Baker phoned Postelnik at 10:00 pm on Sat. night.  This call was followed by ones from Sen. LeMieux. Eventually Congressman Bill Posey and Broward Chairman Chip LaMarca were made aware of the situation and also got involved, despite the late hour.  The situation was resolved after midnight.

Relief efforts continue. On Sunday, Chad Lincoln organized a rally for Haiti with Ed Lynch and Robert Lowry.  Sansaricq and Postelnik continue to work on getting relief supplies into the country and on reuniting the boy who needed medical treatment with his mother.  Several other candidates have allowed their offices to become drop off locations for supplies, and more are in the works.

Anyone who would like to assist in any of the above efforts is encouraged to contact (954) 353-5955 or email director@insidersreview.org and they will be put in touch with the appropriate candidate or citizen leader.

Friends,

The moment the earthquake struck Haiti, Yomin got in touch with congressional candidates Bernard Sansaricq and Tom Garcia. The 3 devised a plan - bring water to Haiti with purification equipment, set up a hotline and drop off locations.

Commander Garcia flew down to Haiti at great risk to his life. Sansaricq has been meeting with Haitian leaders day and night and Yomin established a virtual hotline and acted as the sole point of contact for any relief worker being sent by the three.

Separately, candidates Ed Lynch and Robert Lowry put everything on hold to start their own relief efforts, which were coordinated with when found out. Candidate Dennis Lamb also reached out to Haitian pastors on a daily basis.

Yomin's been up almost every night since the earthquake until 2 am. Yomin helped prepare local businessman Marc Eisenmann for a one man relief mission and Yomin remained the only informational point of contact for Commander Garcia and Marc Eisenmann.

When one of the relief volunteers became stranded, Yomin worked the phones non-stop with Sen. LeMieux' office, the office of Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart's, Chairman Chip LaMarca and citizen leaders Karin Hoffman and Chad Lincoln. Eventually Yomin's contact on the ground came upon a crumbling building with people in it.

Marc Eisenmann, on the phone with Yomin as the only point of contact and advice, managed to pull 2 children out of the rubble. Hours later, he came upon a 5 year old boy with a hematoma.

Yomin called two family friends who are doctors, eventually reaching one of them. In the half hour it took to locate him, Yomin twittered out a request for any doctor to call, as the boy was in danger minute to minute. Eventually the boy landed in Miami and received extensive treatment. He will be well enough to return to Port au Prince within months.

On Friday, Yomin coordinated with 2 volunteers who manned the phone lines, giving phone numbers to people with family on the island. He also dealt with someone whose cargo ship, containing relief supplies, was docked by bureaucrats in a port.

On Sat. night, Commander Garcia returned home with a little Haitian girl who needed medical help. Airport workers docked the plane for 7 hours. Yomin, the main point of contact, got in touch with Sen. Carey Baker, Chairman LaMarca and Sen. LeMieux's office. All of these people deserve great credit for helping save this girl.

Today Yomin visited the Haitian boy who was rescued by Eisenmann. He was interviewed by FOX 7 WSVN and the segment should be on tonight. The boy survived, but lost an arm. He is, however, up, alert and playing with toys. His father is here and Eisenmann will house them for the duration of their stay. However, his mother and two sisters are stuck in Port au Prince, one block from La Plaza hotel, the capital's center.

ACTION ALERT:

We ask anyone traveling there to take the mother and two baby girls with them here for the duration of treatment. They come from a hard working family and will go back once treatment is over. With them is a 2 year old nephew who is a US citizen with a passport. There are no immigration issues and they have no intention of staying. We ask for the help of everyone traveling to Haiti to reunite this family.

Thank you,

Leah Postelnik

PS While this is not the time for politics, it's very clear which political philosophy is community minded and which political philosophy is not. There would be no need to point this out, if not for the fact that so many Democrats/liberals have used every disaster to falsely smear our side while doing nothing on their own. Yomin puts it best when he says "For many Democrats, "compassion" is a photo op. For Republicans, it's a way of life."

We thank everyone who has aided in this effort.

Republican Candidates Rally to Haitian Relief Effort

Florida (Statewide) – Human rights leader and congressional candidate, FL-23, Bernard Sansaricq has announced the formation of a coalition of candidates to rally to the aid of Haiti in the aftermath of yesterday’s devastation 7.0 earthquake.  Candidate for Florida House District 91, Yomin Postelnik, will chair efforts among candidates on the state level.  The effort is in tandem with the relief effort launched by congressional candidate Tom Garcia, FL-24, who traveled to Haiti this morning to begin relief efforts.

Sansaricq on the federal level and Postelnik on the state level are seeking to gather supplies and direct funds to Non-Governmental Organizations within the Port-Au-Prince area. They will also reach out to congressmen and state representatives to join in the initiative. Former Naval Commander Tom Garcia leading the ground operations in Haiti, where he is flying with a team of water purification experts to ensure the availability of drinking water, the first and most severe side casualty of the disaster.

The three leaders of this project were chosen for their varying expertise.  Bernard Sansaricq is a human rights leader in South Florida, who has made it a priority to end child slavery in immigrant populations and bring running water and electricity to areas of Pahokee that are without. Garcia is a former naval officer with hands on leadership experience.  He also has extensive experience in disaster relief and purification of drinking water in devastated areas.  Postelnik is an expert in non-profit development, as well as media consulting.

Sansaricq said, “this is a most needed project and we hope that everyone in South Florida will participate.  When I sounded the rallying cry, I did not expect any candidates to take part.  While I strongly wish that were no need for this program, I was relieved when Garcia and Postelnik, two of the greatest innovators in Florida politics, agreed to take lead roles in this necessary project.”

Postelnik added, “Bernard and I have been working on a proposal to bring small business to impoverished areas within Florida by way of both federal and state tax incentives. As we seek to better the lives of all Floridians, we must also take a proactive role in minimizing disaster and eliminating the suffering that has taken place so close to Florida’s shores. We are also very fortunate to have the hands on leadership of Commander Tom Garcia.  His ground efforts are nothing short of heroic.  The same can be said of Bernard Sansaricq’s leadership on all issues that pertain to human rights.”

Anyone interested in taking part in this effort is encouraged to call (954) 353-5955 or email director@insidersreview.org.

Endorsement of Major General Paul Vallely, US Army, (Ret.)

To all Concerned Citizens,

I’ve decided to endorse Yomin Postelnik in the race for Florida House of Representatives, District 91.  Yomin’s reach goes far beyond the district and his voice is a needed one in the fight for America’s values.

Yomin will make an excellent legislator, as he is a strong defender of conservative solutions and one who knows that we cannot back down in the fight for moral values.  He also understands the original intent of the Constitution and will fight to uphold it on the state level against further liberal power grabs from DC, as is clear from his forceful opposition to Obamacare and his positions on all major issues.

The Republican Party needs up and coming leaders with a vision and who are not afraid to back down from a fight and the Republican Party needs young leaders with the courage to stand by their sound beliefs.

I am endorsing this campaign for the following reasons.  Yomin is:

· A 32 year old conservative columnist and local committeeman who’s been published in the American Thinker, American Daily Review and Canada Free Press

· A father of 2 children and former foster father

· A board member of the Ten Commandments Commission

· An effective defender of conservatism and someone who can help with recruitment across the board, because he's done it in the past.  He can also help nationally with Jewish recruitment.  Yomin is already one of the few candidates who stumps for other candidates

· A seminary graduate

· the Publisher of Autism Health and Wellness Magazine, a leading special needs advocacy magazine (see www.AutismHealthandWellness.com

· Pro-life, pro-national security and pro-economy

His campaign is unique:

· He is the 1st candidate to say that our shores are the frontline on the War on Terror and to demand comprehensive shoreline surveillance, on the state level if necessary

· He has stated “Democrats War on Seniors in My War on Democrats” and has written several detailed pieces pointing out the nature of Obamacare - which he's been doing since before he became a candidate

· He has been fighting and writing against socialized medicine and Obama’s plans since Feb. of last year

· Yomin authored a Financial Literacy course designed to motivate teens to stay in school and avoid crime. The course was approved by the Broward County school board and used by the United Way

· Yomin put his cell phone number on his website, www.ABetterFlorida.com, with a pledge to keep a direct access number available, where he can be reached directly at least once a week – always, should he be elected

For all of the above reasons, I urge you to support this campaign.

12/30/09

TELEPHONE CONFERENCE ON STATE SECURITY

Tues. Jan. 6th at 6:30 pm

Dial-in Number: (712) 432-0600
Access Code: 729389

Cost: Free / Campaign Donations Welcome

Topics will include:

· Effective state security spending vs. where we can make cuts and maximize effectiveness

· Homeland preparedness – what Florida Emergency Management can do

· Effective and cost effective airport surveillance that accomplishes what’s necessary without devastating the system

The conference call will also include an overview of terror. These topics may not be exclusively state issues, but they are key to understanding the root of the threat, which is itself vital to security preparedness.

Discussion will include:

· An overview of hotspot regions – how most Iranians identify with their Persian ancestry and have little affection for the current regime, yet how select Shiite radicals are trying to co-opt the legitimate reformist movement.

· A sensible Afghan strategy – Why Afghanistan is different from Iraq. Why the supportive role engaged in by Americans for the past eight years worked, why Bill Clinton’s empty rhetoric on troop surges would have been disastrous if implemented and why Obama’s surge is likely not the best way to go. Minimal changes and steps that could have worked in America’s best interests.

· Unique situations within both the Afghan/Pakistani and Iranian/Afghan border regions.

· Why mutually beneficial trade agreements are a sound and reasonable route to pursue and how this can be accomplished. As a starting point, trade would not commence until effective counter-terrorism measures are put into place by prospective participant countries.

· What all of this means for Florida’s enhanced security.

Please make it to this important teleconference on what can be done to augment security on the state level. The teleconference is free but we encourage donations at http://abetterflorida.com/Donate.html.

  • Message on terror and state based security
  • End of year appeal
  • Invite to a special teleconference on Florida's security

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This campaign was the first in the state to demand comprehensive shoreline surveillance as a safeguard against terror, a necessary measure to protect Floridians.  Now I’m asking for your help to make this and other common sense solutions a reality.

I’m asking you to donate to my campaign.  Please donate today and make a powerful message for our end of year filing.  I ask you to donate because this campaign has proposed unique and needed solutions, especially with regard to Florida’s homeland security.

Bumper stickers and choice books are available as an incentive, but I’m asking you to donate today to help spread a needed message at a needed time.

Please stand with the campaign that has proposed sensible solutions to Florida's security.  Please donate $25 and receive your choice of a bumper sticker or a decal.  Donate $75 and receive either sticker, plus one of two excellent and thought provoking books plus a handwritten card from Yomin. Simply log on to www.ABetterFlorida.com/Donate.html and donate or mail checks to the address below.

I’m also inviting you to a special teleconference on security and on what we can do to protect Florida and Floridians in the wake of a changing world.  See below for details.

I’ve been pounding comprehensive shoreline surveillance since I announced my candidacy.

From a speech this summer:

“I’m the first candidate to make an issue of the simple fact that our shores are the frontline in the war on terror and that their proper surveillance should be priority number one.

This point is absolutely critical.  Right now, anyone can take a ship from Saudi Arabia, or from anywhere else in the world, park 12 nautical miles off of our shores, load up a small yacht and we treat it as if that yacht had just come in from Chesapeake Bay.  Am I hesitant to mention this?  No – because this fact is well known to our enemies.  The only question is, “What are we going to do about it?”

From the same speech, with regard to which party can and will propose sane solutions:

“Republicans, not Democrats, organized the most comprehensive homeland security overhaul in the aftermath of 9-11 as Democrats sat back and wondered what to do.  Some were even thankful that there was a Republican administration – Remember, I’m talking about right after 9-11, when Democrats realized that we were in danger and before politics clouded the national security debate, causing them to oppose the same measures that they themselves had co-authored, albeit only after Republicans pushed for a needed overhaul.”

Protecting Our Shores from Terror is a key part of my policy platform and has been since day one.

Reforming our criminal justice system to focus on rehabilitation, fill needed public works contracts and ending radical jihadist conversions in a broken prison system that has bred crime and terror is a key platform plank in this campaign.

Adding financial literacy and motivation to middle school education, thereby teaching students the tangible reasons for staying in school and avoiding crime, isn’t only a platform plank.  I wrote the course to get this done.

None of these were front burner issues when I proposed them, but all are necessary for our state.

So I ask you to stand with me today and make a donation to support this campaign, one that has consistently proposed solutions that are vital for the safety of this state and for all Floridians.  Please join us for one moment in support.

Donate $25 and receive your choice of a bumper sticker or a decal.

TELEPHONE CONFERENCE ON STATE SECURITY

Wed. Jan. 6th at 6:30 pm

Dial-in Number: (712) 432-0600

Access Code: 729389

Cost: Free

Democrats’ War on Seniors is My War on Democrats

Democrats are intent on pushing through one of the biggest monstrosities that this nation has ever seen, one that would kill healthcare as we know it, make across the board cuts in the options available to seniors and drastically increase premiums across the board.

Do Democrats care about any of this?  No.  The more premiums skyrocket, the more they believe that they can ram through total and complete socialized medicine.  It doesn’t matter that government taxation will be the cause of the problem.

To add disgrace to contemptuous farce, something that Democrats seem to specialize in these days, Sen. Bill Nelson and Congressman Ron Klein are set to approve $1.2 billion to Nebraska in order to purchase the vote of Bill Nelson’s comrade, Sen. Ben Nelson.  They’ll also vote to approve $100 million to purchase the vote of Louisiana’s Sen. Mary Landrieu.

Nelson and Klein are selling Florida down the drain and Democrats fiddle as our economy burns. (And thanks to them, so might our health care.)  This is outrageous.

What can a candidate for state representative do about this?  With your help, one heck of a lot!

I’ve been fighting against this “health care” horror since February, when Obama still had a popularity rating in the 60s and while no one else was paying attention.

When Democrats unceremoniously sneaked so called “healthcare” legislation into the so called economic “stimulus” bill, I sent out the following scathing rebuke:

Just How Low Have Democrats Sunk – Is Killing Seniors Not Beyond Limits?

Feb. 10, 2009

By Yomin Postelnik

A month later, when the media started to catch on and the Democrats went forward with their campaign of a thousand lies, I followed up with:

Obama and Newsweek Declare War On Seniors

Mar. 16, 2009

By Yomin Postelnik

A state representative can do a lot.

Had local politicians vigorously expressed their sound beliefs in Venezuela in the 1990s, there would have been no Hugo Chavez.  And if more candidates for state and local office throughout the nation stand up and sound the alarm, there will be no outrageous ObamaPelosiCare.

This campaign has been at the forefront of the battle against the socialized rationing of our medicine and the accompanying pillaging of our economy.

But we need your support as we continue to fight for this and other matters.  So please log on today to www.ABetterFlorida.com/Donate.html and join our efforts to rollback Obamacare.

Moreover, early this year, I had a conversation with State Senator, and candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, Carey Baker about the needs of South Florida voters.  I stressed the importance of fighting against government rationed care.  A week later, Sen. Baker proposed a bill asserting Florida’s right to opt out of this federal outrage.  This was before Sen. Harry Reid’s opt-out clause was even thought of.

In fact, Harry Reid only made the opt out provision in response to state challenges.  The opt out won’t do anything to prevent skyrocketing insurance premiums, but it will help rollback the complete socialization of our healthcare.  This national provision is thanks to the efforts of one state senator here in Florida, and as a candidate, I planted the suggestion and gave him needed encouragement for his proposal.

As I said. we need your support as we continue to fight for this and other matters.  So please log on today to www.ABetterFlorida.com/Donate.html and join our efforts to rollback Obamacare.

There’s a reason that people from all around the world flock to the United States of America whenever they need serious health care.  And it’s not because of Ron Klein or Bill Nelson.

I will protect the rights of Florida seniors.  Our Greatest Generation, our World War II veterans, our parents and grandparents deserve far better than the cruel and callous Democrat ravaging of our health care system.

I’ve been fighting this issue since before it arrived on the national stage.  I’ve been blasting Democrats on it since they’ve started, when Obama’s approval ratings were in the 60s.

Our seniors are our most valued members of society.  They have imparted the most knowledge to us and have built everything that we as a society have today.

And they deserve far better than the government rationed, third rate, so called “health care” that is the work of Ron Klein and Bill Nelson.

Bill Nelson and Ron Klein have established themselves as the two Grinches Who Stole Healthcare.  We can and must stop them for the sake of Florida’s families.  I’ve been fighting hard on this issue and I will continue to do so with your help.

But I need your help.

Please make a donation of $25 today on the website, www.ABetterFlorida.com, and receive a bumper sticker or car decal.

Make a donation of $75 and receive a great conservative book, either William F. Buckley’s biography of President Ronald Reagan or “Great Quotes That Shaped the Western World.”

From the article: Obama and Newsweek Declare War On Seniors

Mar. 16, 2009

By Yomin Postelnik

The reaction of some liberals and all of the media to Obama’s plan to ration health care for the elderly shows once and for all what conservatives have suspected for quite some time: that given the choice of abandoning their liberal dogma or saving their lives, far too many Democrat supporters would risk their health and that of their countrymen than so much as reassess the nonsensical, foolish and downright harmful rhetoric that is the Democrat Party’s far-left creed.

In the column “Just How Low Have Democrats Sunk – Is Killing Seniors Now Not Beyond Limits?” I expressed contempt for how Democrats had covertly snuck health care legislation into their so-called economic “stimulus” bill (a reckless collection of payoffs and wishful hopes that will do little other than further endanger this nation’s international credit rating).

Please join the fight by donating at www.ABetterFlorida.com/Donate.html.

Even the far left is taking notice.  Conservative activist John Labriola sent me a copy of an email sent out by a far left group, Fire Dog Lake.  John mentioned that this is the first email he’s seen from them in ages that actually makes sense.  But it does.

Among Fire Dog Lake’s points regarding the disaster that is ObamaCare:

·         Forces you to pay up to 8% of your income to private insurance corporations -- whether you want to or not

·         If you refuse to buy the insurance,  you'll have to pay penalties of up to 2% of your annual income to the IRS

·         After being forced to pay thousands in premiums for junk insurance, you can still be on the hook for up to $11,900 a year in out-of-pocket medical expenses.

·         Paid for by taxes on the middle class insurance plan you have right now through your employer, causing them to cut back benefits and increase co-ays (sic)

·         Many of the taxes to pay for the bill start now, but most Americans won't see any benefits -- like an end to discrimination against those with preexisting conditions -- until 2014 when the program begins.

·         Allows insurance companies to charge people who are older 300% more than others

So yes, even sincere protesters within the far left are waking up to this monstrosity of a power grab.

But please join my common sense conservative fight by donating to my campaign at www.ABetterFlorida.com/Donate.html.

Please join us for a fundraiser this Sat. night at the home of supporter and noted author Larry Domnitch.

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR
FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DISTRICT 91

Over the past several months, this campaign has advocated bold proposals and initiatives for Florida’s future.

We’ve been the first campaign in the nation to advocate for comprehensive shoreline surveillance, key to protecting our shores, our state and our nation against terror.

We’ve demanded education reform.  Yomin previously wrote a motivational financial literacy course that shows teens why staying in school and away from crime is so important.  We now want to deliver a similar program to the state.

Yomin has stated that Democrats’ War on Seniors is his War on Democrats.  Yomin was the second in the nation to write a column outlining Obama’s plans on healthcare, all the way back in February, as adverse healthcare legislation was being snuck into a stimulus bill.

Yomin has also advocated for small business, criminal justice reform that breeds rehabilitation and more.  He’s also proposed changes to state law in the wake of the Rifqa Barry case.

Now we ask you to take one minute to support this worthy and cutting edge campaign.

This campaign has proposed more common sense solutions on all matters affecting Floridians than almost any in the state.  Please join us for one moment in support.

A Moral Outrage Affecting Florida’s Children

I am writing you today about a glaring problem that no one is doing anything about.

Various state representatives have initiated educational reforms to combat some of the most egregious problems in our educational system.  Representative Dorothy Hukill, in particular, deserves high praise for her bill to ban the use of “restraining rooms” for special needs students in our schools.

Yet there is an even greater outrage that must be outlawed.  Schools have taken to calling police and arresting children over classroom disruptions. If teachers and principals cannot think of some other form of punishment, then they have no business teaching – period.

As a point of reference, here are two of the most shameful news stories on this issue:

School Arrests 6 Year Old

http://www.wftv.com/news/11455199/detail.html

School Arrests 9 Year Old – Just One of Many

http://www.winknews.com/news/local/31072219.html

According to the Fort Myers News-Press, in 2007, Lee County's Juvenile Assessment Center processed 19 children younger than 9 for criminal offenses. From Jan. to Oct. 2008, there were nine such cases, 13 arrests of 10 year olds and 21 cases of children who were only 11.

It’s more than time for us to do something about this situation.  Children can be given a host of effective disciplinary measures, all of which are more effective than the sheer insanity outlined above.

Repetitive line writing has trained more than one child to follow along with the rest of the class.  Especially difficult cases can be handled by forcing the student to clean the entire schoolyard if necessary.  Both of these measures get the message through to the child and neither causes long term trauma or complete and utter hatred of school as an institution.

Arresting a child is not only dumb, it’s wantonly harmful.  Is there a doubt in anyone’s mind that, by and large, those children will detest school and never again feel a desire to succeed?  Is there any doubt in anyone’s mind that they will generally drop out of school at the earliest opportunity?

If we’re looking to breed a new generation of criminals, then such measures are undoubtedly the way to go.  But if we’re looking to raise students, this egregious practice must be stopped.

If the situation continues, once elected, my first bill will be one to prohibit schools from requesting law enforcement for nonviolent disruptions.  But we shouldn’t wait until November and I urge you to contact current representatives throughout the state and demand that action be taken on this issue.

DCF Insanity

In other news, it has been discovered that the Department of Children and Families is allowing convicted felons to run daycare centers and to work in the field of child care.  Their excuse for this utter idiocy is that DCF believes in second chances.

Well I believe in redemption too!

I believe that recalcitrant drug felons, prostitutes and small time burglars can be given jobs in customer service, in business relations and, if need be, even be given bureaucratic jobs at DCF.  The most able of them can go on to run businesses.  But I rightly draw the line at the preposterously incorrigible idea of giving them license to care for Florida’s children!

This is exactly what happens when bureaucrats are left to their own devices and I pledge to be a sledgehammer of common sense on this and other matters of importance.

Campaign Update

Our campaign is receiving widespread attention for our plan to monitor Florida’s shores as a safeguard against terror.  This is another needed program that our campaign singularly identified and is taking the lead on.  To this end, Yomin was invited to MC an America/Israel solidarity rally on Dec. 6th.  This Thurs. night, Yomin will be interviewed by Jacob Kornbluh, author of the Bibi Report and a former member of the Netanyahu campaign.

Our campaign is consistently at the forefront of all issues that truly affect our state, often being the first to propose measures that are of vital importance.  And we will continue to do so with your help.

On Thanksgiving

We'd like to take this time to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving.  Let us remember the true meaning of the day, to connect with and give thanks to the Almighty who bestows all blessings to each of us individually, to our families and to our state.

To remind us all of the true meaning of the day, and so as to remind myself of what public service is about, attached is the first Thanksgiving message, the Proclamation of President Lincoln in 1863:

The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict, while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that...

... while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.

Many blessings to you and to your loved ones, always,

Yomin and Leah Postelnik

Veterans Day: Leadership vs. Folly in the Face of Challenges

Dear Friends,

On veterans day, we pay tribute those who defend our nation and our safety.  The brave men and women of our Armed Forces, their families - parents, grandparents, children, brothers and sisters who join in their sacrifices, deserve our prayers on a daily basis.  They deserve our support and encouragement and it is the responsibility of those who run for public office to look out for their best interests, first and foremost - and always.

With that in mind, I ask you to visit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Spread word about their efforts or make a donation to their cause at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.  They help those who have stood at the forefront of our battles and who have sacrificed the most on behalf of America and on behalf of the great people of the State of Florida.

In light of the outrageous terror attack at Fort Hood, we must embolden ourselves and strengthen our efforts against terror.  Ignoring the dangers faced by our nation does not make them go away.  On the contrary, we must use common sense principles to safeguard this nation.

That is why my campaign made monitoring our shores a key part of our campaign platform.  As Florida has the largest coastal area of any of the continental United States we can lead the effort, if we do it right.

Surveillance of our shores is the most important part of a sound national security plan.  Our shores are truly the front line in the War on Terror.  For more information on how we propose to protect our shores, please visit my campaign site, www.ABetterFlorida.com, and click on "Policy Platform."

Lessons of Veterans Day

Veterans and our military embody what it means to provide effective response to challenge.  That's why I again ask you to get involved with the Wounded Warrior Project at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/

Referring to the attack at Fort Hood as the act of an "alleged shooter" makes us seem callous and naive in the face of terror - which is exactly the wrong message to send to those who wish us harm.  Failure to recognize the act as one of terror, after the alleged mass murderer was found to have made statements in support of terror and after his attempts to connect with al Qaeda were confirmed through computer forensics, certainly sends the wrong message.  Action, not failure to act - together with help from Above - is the only way to respond with effectiveness.

If leaders on the national level can do nothing more than give "shout outs" to their favorite doctors in the face of crisis, all the while reassuring us that terror wasn't the motive of a man who had tried to contact al Qaeda, then state and local campaigns will fill the tremendous void in leadership that exists at the top.  And so will the many voices that are the people of the United States of America.

Through resolve and proactive leadership we can do our part to secure a safe nation.  Now is not the time for foolish disregard.  Now is a time that demands leadership from each and every one of us.

This, above all, is the lesson of Veterans Day.  To react with effectiveness and certainty in the face of any obstacle, to go outside of one's field of comfort in order to benefit others, and to appreciate the great service of the men and women of our Armed Forces.

A blessed Veterans Day to each of you - and most of all, to the members of our Armed Services and to their families.

Sincerely,

Yomin Postelnik

CAMPAIGN UPDATE - From Florida to New York to South Carolina - Bringing it Back to Florida

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Just wanted to update you on the recent growth of our campaign.  Yomin has also made media headlines in Florida and beyond.  As well, there are several great community events that we are inviting you to.

In the past week or so, we've added Dan Hoffman to our team.  Dan is working with Yomin and others on donor relations and fundraising.

There are several other great developments.  In the past week alone, our candidate was the subject of an interview for an educational documentary, made headlines both in and out of state and volunteered to teach six groups of teens his Financial Literacy Curriculum on behalf of one of Broward's municipalities.

Yomin is no ordinary candidate and this is no ordinary campaign.  His extensive work with at risk youth and special needs is surpassed only by the depth and common sense solutions that he brings to all issues of substance.

This campaign has already identified key problems facing our state, many of which have otherwise been ignored, and proposed sensible solutions to those challenges (see http://abetterflorida.com/Policy_Platform.html for details).  The campaign has also proposed two changes to Florida law, setting the standard for readiness to take on the issues.

Please take two minutes to strengthen this campaign by donating at http://abetterflorida.com/Donate.html.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Community Events

Last week Yomin was asked by the City of Lauderdale Lakes to lead a discussion on financial literacy as part of a special program offered to motivate teens to succeed in school and in life.  On Friday, Yomin led a discussion with over 80 teens on how to budget, the need to think long term, the difference that education and staying clear of drugs and crime can make in their lives and more.  Each teen was provided with a copy of Yomin's Financial Literacy Course.

Later today, Yomin will be delivering a lecture on special needs advocacy.  The event was organized by myself, Yomin and others. Speakers include notable child therapists, occupational therapists and other special needs professionals.  To attend please call me at (786) 547-3429.

Local Media

Yomin's campaign was a feature story of the Jewish Journal, a Forum/Sun-Sentinel publication that reaches over 100,000 from Miami-Dade through North Palm Beach.  This campaign would like to thank Representative Ari Porth for his intelligent and thoughtful comments.  At the same time, this campaign is shocked and appalled by the comments of Representative Kelly Skidmore who falsely implied that Jews would have a problem with Christian prayer.

Yomin served on the board of Dr. R. Wexler's Ten Commandments Commission and recognizes that America's Judeo-Christian values are the basis of our society.  Whether one is Jewish or whether one is Christian, most agree with this statement, regardless of party affiliation.

We need more prayer, not less.  Representative Skidmore's use of another candidate's ethnicity to defame and bash prayer is uncalled for and unappreciated.  Also worth noting is that, at Yomin's behest, the campaign called Representative Skidmore's office in an attempt to resolve the issue (and in the hope of avoiding comment) after her disgraceful comments were printed. The call went unreturned.

National Documentary

Yomin was also interviewed for a documentary in New York on the educational affects of modern day animation comedies.  Yomin presented a detailed and succinct argument regarding the underlying educational and developmental pitfalls of many television programs that are wrongly geared toward kids.  Yomin's expertise and thorough analysis of educational issues is becoming widely recognized and appreciated.

Out of State Headlines

Why is a candidate for Florida House making headlines in South Carolina?  Because Yomin recognizes that a baseless attack on one Republican is a baseless attack on all Republicans.

When two South Carolina chairmen were falsely accused of anti-Semitism for an op-ed in which they were complimentary to Jews, Yomin saw what was happening to them for what it was.  So did many others, as we know from compliments we've received about Yomin's op-ed.  But Yomin was the first, and so far only voice to speak out.

Coverage of the story in South Carolina papers and the text of Yomin's op-ed can be found at http://www.timesanddemocrat.com/articles/2009/10/20/news/doc4ade50c4c131d107943298.txt.

After writing the op-ed, Yomin had a conversation with Chairman Ulmer and his Vice-Chairman.  The conversation validated Yomin's belief that these men were wrongly targeted for political purposes.

A retraction and an apology to our own statement:

Statement by Yomin Postelnik:

On all important issues this campaign has been ahead of any in the state in terms of advocacy and effectiveness at brining solutions to the table.  So when we’ve been wrong about something, we’re not ashamed to admit it.

A series of events triggered a few weeks ago led to an email about Chip Burpee, Chief of Staff to former Sen. Bob Graham.  After speaking with him, I’ve found him to be of fine character.  Accordingly, I wish to retract any previous statements to the contrary and apologize for having made them in the first place.

Chip Burpee is a fine family man who values public service.  I applaud those qualities in him and in others.

In similar vein, I now ask Democrat activists to stop smearing others, as so many of them have over the past few years, and to refocus our efforts on the vibrant debate that needs to take place on the issues.

Lastly, a Matter of Community Importance

Last week we received notification that a local food bank had been ravaged by fire.  District resident and local publisher/reporter Andrea Freygang has asked that all people get involved in helping this worthy organization that itself helps so many.  The story is at http://browardnetonline.com/2009/10/local-food-bank-needs-help-after-fire-destroys-all-inventory/.

If there are issues affecting members of the district or any pertinent happenings in Broward or Palm Beach County that need to be advanced, please feel free to contact the campaign.

Thank you again,

Postelnik Campaign Announces Appointment of Fundraising Chairman, Team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 13, 2009
CONTACT: Leah Postelnik, Media Coordinator
PHONE:  954- 353-5595

Dania Beach, FL - The Postelnik campaign for Florida House of Representatives is pleased to announce the hiring of our Finance Chairman.  Dan Hoffman, a well tested political and business leader with deep ties to members of both political parties has signed on to chair the campaign’s fundraising efforts.  A Finance Director has also been selected and will be announced within days.

Hoffman will oversee a team that includes several local business leaders and executives ranging from small business to healthcare.

Postelnik announced the appointment of Hoffman, stating, “Dan shares my passion for human rights, for trade agreements with our neighbors and for bringing creativity to the classroom.  He’s one of South Florida’s most energetic business leaders and we’re very pleased to have his busines s experience and wealth of contacts on our team.”
Hoffman has been widely recognized for his involvement in community causes.  Other members of the finance board have deep connections to charitable contributions and donations of free testing to numerous health related non-profits.  The company is also active in the area of sports and Estriplet’s leadership has been praised by national athletes and coaches.

A summary statement by the campaign was issued last night to close supporters:

“The first months of this campaign were spent earning crucial name recognition and echoing a consistent reformist message.  The campaign has been at the forefront of all important issues and has championed a sensible conservative message.  Its updates are among the most thorough anywhere in the state.

We’ve been privileged to be the only State House race featured on the front page of the Deerfield Observer, directly reaching thousands in our district, and to have brought our strong common sense conservative message to several radio shows and media venues.  Other major media stories are already in the works, scheduled to hit the press later in the week.

At this time we are concentrating on the next phase, raising funds to be vibrant and competitive in the general.  We will be making several staff appointments in the coming weeks.  However, we are thrilled to have Dan Hoffman heading up the team and a number of health related and general business professionals now involved in the campaign.”

There are many worthy campaigns asking for your donation as the end of this campaign quarter approaches.  All of them are worthy and in each case, the candidate has put themselves on the line for their race.  But I’d like to tell you what is unique about my campaign and why I hope that you will go to http://www.abetterflorida.com/Donate.html and take a stand to support my groundbreaking race.

The “Progressive” coalition has seen fit to target me on their “Florida House Watch.”  I’m the first candidate that they’ve smeared in this cycle.

Do I mind?  No.  Quite the contrary - I wear their imbecilic insults as a badge of honor.  But what’s important is why they’re doing it.  And the reason for that is the same reason why you should get involved in my campaign.

I’ve been combating liberal lies for years.  I started the Myth Debunker blogs in 2006 for precisely that reason.  I have written columns for American Daily Review, American Thinker and Canada Free Press articulating why conservatism is right and liberalism is wrong, why compassion is found in conservative solutions and why the Republican Party is the best to lead the nation on all matters of importance.

My campaign has proposed bold and unique solutions. Some of them, like criminal justice reform and bringing creativity back into the classroom, aren’t ideological in nature.  They’re just plain common sense and are necessary for the safety and future of our nation.

My campaign is not merely a campaign to defend a single House seat, as important as that task is.  It’s to change perceptions and to awaken Floridians to the difference that they can make.

My platform isn’t a rehash of ideological points. It’s a needed plan for going forward.  It’s unique, original and extremely necessary.

To date, we have proposed two changes in Florida law in response to the Rifqa Bary case, where an Ohio girl fled to Florida to escape the threats of an extremist mosque.  We spoke out against instances of liberal indoctrination in our schools and have taken a lead in protecting Florida from Obamacare.

A week before Sen. Carey Baker offered up his groundbreaking amendment to protect our seniors, I called to encourage him to do so.

My policy platform alone is the most thorough and groundbreaking of any platform in the state.  I wrote every word of it myself, because the platform is a needed path forward.

All in all, I’ve proposed more sensible and thought out initiatives than most federal campaigns have managed to put forward.

And does that have the left running scared?  Well, the “Florida House Watch” isn’t targeting anyone else just yet.

Our campaign has been distinctly on top of the issues. More importantly, I’ve shared my talking points with other campaigns.   My message and my goal is to rally South Florida Republicans and to rally people to demand better.

MY CAMPAIGN IS DEDICATED TO REFUTING THE LIES THAT “PROGRESSIVE” DEMOCRATS HAVE USED AGAINST THE REPUBLICAN BRAND - lies that have cost our party dearly, because they have gone unchallenged.

So there are good reasons why so-called “progressive” Democrats are targeting my campaign.  And they’re the same reasons why you should get involved in my campaign today and help me end off the quarter and jump into the crucial winter months in a position of strength.

We are rallying South Florida with bold policies and by calling a spade a spade and exposing Democrats at every turn, but……… we need your help.

Please log on today and donate $25, $50 or whatever amount that you can.  The donation link is http://www.abetterflorida.com/Donate.html.

And while we’re at it – Here’s the video that got them going.  Read the initial comment, which is true.  I will expose Democrats each and every day.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS6_xtmGmDA

I can see why Democrats are upset about Republicans proposing bold ideas.  But that’s not our problem.

I can see why they’re upset when someone points out that “the party that once boasted such legends as Hubert Humphrey, Scoop Jackson and Daniel Patrick Moynihan is now led by such luminaries as Diane Watson (of Castro fame), Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.”  But that isn’t our problem either.

We’re not responsible for Democrat lunacy.  Our responsibility is to do something about it!

And that’s why I’m asking you for your support.

Please stand with me and send a clear message to Florida Democrats.

Please stand with my platform and fight for a better Florida.

Please log on today at http://www.abetterflorida.com/Donate.html and donate $25, $50 or whatever amount you can.

We have until midnight tonight to thump Florida Democrats.  And I ask you to stand with me.

Thank you so much,

Yomin

Anyone who donates before midnight will be invited to a special invitation only meet and greet tomorrow as we roll out the next phase of our campaign.  Hope to see you there.

Join the campaign to bring real reform and improvement to our District and to our State.

Yomin Postelnik is the first candidate in any race on the state level to declare that:

·        Taxes are a family values issue.  We must never allow the government to increase the burden on those who work hard to provide for their families and pay for their children’s education.

·        Our shores are the frontline in keeping America safe from terror.  Homeland security is also a state responsibility and we must work with the Florida National Guard and Florida Emergency Management to effectively monitor our coasts.

Yomin has also stated that:

·        Current property tax rates are unsustainable and assessed values must come down to reality.

·        Educational reform is key to our nation’s success. As a businessman, Yomin developed a budgeting and lifeskills course for teens that was approved by the School Board and has been used in motivational programs for at-risk youth.

·        Criminal justice reform, with shorter, but harder labor sentences, is key to stopping first time and nonviolent offenders from becoming career criminals.

Demagoguery, Democrats, Wilson and Welcome Back Carter

The American people often engage in robust debate.  So do the citizens and (even the) parliamentarians of Britain and other Western countries.  It’s considered a healthy aspect of most democracies, albeit an annoying one.

So when Democrats voted their disapproval of Representative Joe Wilson, they did a disservice to the American people.  They also did a disservice to democracy, which was once a core principle of their party but sadly is no more.

I’m all for civility. I’m even more for healthy, pointed, passionate dissent.  Such dissent harms no one and has the potential to diffuse situations, as it allows each side to present their respective points of view with focused devotion.

Civility and indignation are two equally important aspects to the political health of a democratic republic.  Civility allows us to discuss issues and righteous indignation allows us to express our passion in words.  Rigorous dissent is healthy and needed.  It’s what separates first class societies that engage in rigorous debate from countries that settle their disputes by way of mob violence.

Over the past eight years, I’ve heard Democrat activists and many of their Washington leaders yell an unending and ferocious tirade of curses and accusations at Republicans, at all Republicans.  And as tasteless, wrongheaded and false as those tirades were, I would never dream of trying to stifle honest opposition.  No Republican would.

What’s even more outrageous is that Congressman Wilson’s comment that President Barack Obama is a liar (which, based on both the Senate version at the time, as well as a proper reading of the House version, was a fair statement) pales in comparison to statements by Senator Dick Durbin, the number two ranking Democrat who compared our American troops to Nazis on the Senate floor.  And “pales in comparison” is putting it extremely mildly.

I guess you can only yell outrageous obscenities from the floor of the US Senate. In the House, one must show decorum at all times.  Well then, let me be the first to endorse Joe Wilson for US Senate.  The difference is that he was standing up for the interests his constituents, not falsely maligning American heroes who risk their lives on behalf of the nation.  Maybe that’s what congressional Democrats have a problem with.

Furthermore, in the 2006 State of the Union address, Democrats interrupted mid-sentence.  The reaction was a smile from then President Bush followed by a one liner that turned the tables back on them.  Not a single person in the chamber didn’t enjoy the exchange, and unlike Joe Wilson, they did not apologize.

Congressman Wilson’s statement also seems downright complimentary compared to that of former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, who went on national TV accusing our troops of harassing women and children.  Of course, false accusations against American troops are nothing new for Senator Kerry.  Just ask any Vietnam veteran.

President Obama may be many things.  But he’s not more honorable than our American soldiers.  He’s also not above reproof.

What congressional Democrats have shown by last night’s vote is how thin skinned all but 17 of them are, not to mention hypocritical.

How does this tie in with a state house race?  Very simple:

A state representative has an awesome responsibility to speak out against that which is wrong.  And witch hunt tactics are always wrong, as is one sided hypocrisy.

Local politicians must always stand up against heavy handed political games and fight for their sound beliefs. We must stand as checks against abuse of power.  And a vote against a representative who already apologized to President Obama over a remark that was truthful, albeit harsh, is an abuse of power.

There’s a far greater why I am speaking out with regard to this issue.

The constituents who I am fighting to represent on a state level are represented federally by Ron Klein.

Actually, that’s not true.  Ron Klein is the federal congressman of the constituents who I am fighting to represent on a state level.  But he is not their representative.  It is Lt. Col. Allen West who is hosting healthcare forums and listening to the concerns of constituents as Ron Klein runs and hides from the people of his own district.

Today Ron Klein voted in “disapproval” of a fellow member of the House who actually is doing his job in his respective district.  In rebuking others on civility, Klein seems to have forgotten his own campaign commercials, the ones in which he shamefully and falsely accused E. Clay Shaw, then Florida’s most senior congressman, of trying to poison children.

But what’s even more important is that the people didn’t send Ron Klein to rebuke his far better colleagues. They sent him to protect America’s economy, grow our healthcare options and help keep our nation safe.  In all of those matters, Congressman Klein has voted against the will of those who elected him.

Ron Klein has no time to address the concerns of his constituents.  He only has time to engage in thug tactics against his colleague, the Gentleman from South Carolina.

That’s why I’m speaking out. Because those who I seek to represent deserve the best representation on all levels of government.  We already have great representation on the state level, and I will continue that record.  But the people of this district deserve great representation on all levels, and I will speak out until they get it.

And I can’t help but wonder what Barbra Stern, Democrat turned Republican who switched back to the Democratic Party just to run for this seat has to say about all of this. (Yes, she claims that she switched because she ostensibly agrees with the Obama Democrats’ great record of “fiscal conservatism and social moderation” - but she never saw fit to mention that absurdity the last time she was hanging out with several young Republicans, days before her switch.)

Actually, I don’t need to wonder. Her silence is deafening, as it is on all issues affecting this district.

And as if we didn’t need any more drama, well…. welcome back Carter.

Jimmy Carter is a fool. That may not be the most civil of descriptions, but it is the most fitting one.  Sometimes it’s more important to be factually correct than to be politically so.

Carter’s statement that Rep. Wilson is a “racist” for calling out Barack Obama on a mistruth is as troubling as the needless and petty resolution, if not more so.  And in so doing, Jimmy Carter brings hypocrisy to a new art form.

The Democrats’ own Senate president pro-tempore, Carter’s own Senate majority leader, is an unrepentant former member of the Ku Klux Klan who as recently as 2001 used the n-word on national TV in one of the most tasteless and sickening exchanges since, well… since the Carter administration.  Yet Democrats and Jimmy Carter have the temerity to call us racist - we Republicans who have stood up against racism since the very founding of our party.

Those who use the smear of “racism” lightly only increase paranoia and further divide the citizens of this great nation.  Using accusations of racism as a political weapon is shameful.

Far worse still is the use of false accusations of racism to stifle political dissent.  There can be few things more harmful to the health of a democracy.  What’s more, holding someone above reproach because of his or her race is the very definition of racism.  Such an attitude also allows for the unchecked growth of federal power.

And that’s also why I’m speaking out against this outrage as your candidate for State Representative - because I will fight for a better tomorrow and for a better Florida.

I will always fight for the truth and I will always make my voice heard, unlike one Barbra Stern.

Parents Should Form Study Groups Rather Than Have Their Children Participate in National Indoctrination Day

I have no problem with a President of the United States addressing school children, even in the classroom.  But when the Department of Education formulates a lesson plan asking teachers to glorify the Office of the President and calls for students to read books about presidents “and Barack Obama,” the line is crossed between a nonpartisan speech and partisan political indoctrination.

An address by any president has an impact on a child.  Those who grew up in the late 1980s anywhere in the western world likely remember hearing the words of Ronald Reagan.  As a nine year old child, I remember hearing his speech on judicial activism and his summation that judges should uphold the law, not invent it.  Those words had an affect on me and on my generation, albeit a mooted one, as most 30-35 year olds have yet to understand conservative philosophy.

The difference was that we chose to watch those political speeches or newsclips on our own time and hopefully under the supervision of parents.  Subjecting all children to a speech in which presidents play up their agenda issues absent parental input is a problem.  The Obama speech does touch on such issues and teacher guidance will likely highlight these points.  This, however, would admittedly be inconclusive were it not for the lesson plan put forward by the Department of Education.

The lesson plan, which calls for teachers to glorify the Office of the President minutes prior to the President’s speech, is a subjective form of indoctrination that should be shunned.  The same ultra liberals who think that the speech and the accompanying Obamacentric lesson plan are good ideas would have rightly been mortified had President George W. Bush announced a speech to the nation’s students on the day before a vote on Medicare Part D and further ordered the Department of Education to draw up lesson plans asking for students to be taught “what it takes to become president” and read books on presidents “and about George W. Bush” moments before the speech.  If that had ever happened, their outrage would be justified.  Yet that’s exactly what the current administration has done with this misguided “lesson plan.”

Do they not realize that the next Republican president will likely to pushed to do the same?  Does anyone believe that this is healthy on any level?

Democrats should recognize the harm in this just as Republicans do.  Central to our citizen based government is that we do not have a ruler - rather, citizens elect a president to lead them for a specific duration of time.  Use of phrases like “Obama will begin to rule” by advisors such as Valerie Jarrett prior to the inauguration were problematic. Today’s glorification of the current office holder is just plain ridiculous and shameful.

In light of this, many have called for parents to take their children out of school for the day, but I do not believe in additional days off.

What I propose instead is that parents form study groups for their child’s class and invite all other students to participate.  Failing that, parents should spend the day helping their children with necessary academic work.  At the very least, parents who work should leave a study schedule for children to complete at home so that the day is spent learning, not merely taking off from school.

It is truly a shame that the White House has so politicized the address with a partisan lesson plan aimed to glorify Barack Obama and further a cult of personality from which little good can emerge. Parents should rightly avoid the process.

But what is shocking is that while a statewide solution is easy, no one in the nation has seen fit to propose one.

Florida (and any other state) can and should prohibit public school administrators and any other public school employee from engaging in subjective comments before or after the speech, including those outlined in the outrageous lesson plan provided by the US Department of Education.  The course outline is suggestive and the Department of Education is actually prohibited by law from enforcing any specific type of material, so issuing a state decree that schools are prohibited from entering any suggestive comments prior to or after the address is a simple matter that any state can legislate.

Which bears the question: Why has no state done so and why is my campaign the first to propose this?

On another note, I’ve heard a lot of calls from numerous candidates essentially asking parents to let their kids skip school.  None have advocated for organized study groups that will help children further their education or master the 3 Rs.

Well if my campaign is the only one to put forward a sound proposal, then that’s exactly what we’ll do.

Lastly, this is not an isolated issue. Our schools must be nonpartisan. This was true when schools canceled class to watch the inauguration of President Obama, while the second inauguration of President Bush was met with deafening silence in the halls of academia. (His first inaugural was on a Saturday, but there’s no reason to believe that schools would have aired that one had this not been the case).  This is true when students are berated by staff for not supporting the candidate of their choice and this is especially true when school employees wear partisan political pins on school premises.

Most Republican and Democratic voters alike want to achieve a better standard of living for all, even if elitist Democratic politicians don’t.  We argue only over how to get there.  It’s important that schools allow parents and students to lead that debate without rigid or dogmatic interference.  And when the federal Department of Education sees fit to thrust itself into the debate, such a move must be opposed by all citizens across the board.

Friends,

Yomin will be on 850 WFTL tomorrow morning with Russ Morley at 6:50 to discuss National Indoctrination Day and other matters concerning Florida.

Yomin has proposed that parents arrange study groups instead of staying home and will be issuing a full press release tonight that will be on the site sometime tomorrow. His main suggestion is that Florida prohibit teachers from engaging in subjective comments before or after the speech, including those outlined in the outrageous lesson plan provided by the US Department of Education.

His rallying cry is "Our Schools Should Remain Nonpartisan." Please join us tomorrow at about 6:53 am for the interview on 850 WFTL.

Hope you are all having an excellent Labor Day.

The Current Laws and the Changes Needed - The Rifqa Bary Case

An Explanation of the Proposed Changes to Florida Law and the Need to Advocate

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Yesterday, Candidate for Florida House District 91 Yomin Postelnik proposed two changes to Florida law that he deems crucial, not only with regard to the case of Rifqa Bary, but to all similar cases as well.  Rifqa Bary is the Ohio teenager who recently fled to Florida claiming to be the intended victim of a potential “honor killing.”

Postelnik has called the matter “a human rights issue that all concerned people need to take part in preventing.”  He has called on all Floridians to present the proposal to legislators throughout the state.  Accordingly, he has issued the following explanation of what the proposed legislation would accomplish and when such changes would be applicable.

Florida law currently allows for emancipation petitions to be filed by a parent of a minor, 16 years of age or older.  When both parents have not signed the petition, notice is given to the other parent informing them of the filing.

While many states allow minors to file their own petitions, after which a detailed emancipation hearing is held, Florida is correct in not allowing most minors to initiate the process.  In so doing, the State of Florida upholds the rightful place of parents and also prevents the courts from being clogged up with frivolous petition filings.

But when a child no longer lives with their parents, waiting for a guardian ad litem to be appointed to initiate the process clogs up the very court system the statutes were designed to relieve.  Moreover, restricting a 16 year old child’s ability to file, when both parents no longer play a vital role in the child’s upbringing, ends up being a fairness issue.  It makes sense that parents who have abdicated their responsibilities and who no longer raise their child should not be turned to as the sole initiators of a petition on the child’s behalf.

The second proposal would assert Florida’s jurisdiction in custody hearings in cases where a minor had fled to Florida to escape a parent with provable ties to an organization that has promoted violence within the past ten years.  The definition of such an organization would be based on one or more of its leaders advocating violence or claiming to be a follower of or in joint cause with a known advocate of violent acts.

Some contend that no changes to the law are necessary.  In doing so, they fail to recognize that legal experts were divided as to how the judge would side with regard to jurisdiction in the most recent case of Rifqa Bary, precisely because the law is unclear.  A girl’s life hang in the balance and it is unfathomable that other children may face similar circumstances due to a lack of clarity in the law.

Said Postelnik, “the cost of inaction far outweighs the cost of making these necessary changes to the law.  These proposals have no bearing on well over 90% of cases, and are purposely limited in scope, but they make a world of difference to the children who need them most.”

Bary’s parents are members of the Noor Islamic Cultural Center.  The Center was home to resident scholar Salah Sultan, who calls himself a ‘friend and pupil’ of avowed terror supporter and advocate of suicide bombings Yusuf Qaradawi.  Qaradawi is designated by the United States as a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist.’  Sultan most recently attended an event honoring Qaradawi where the two of them shared the stage with Khaled Mashaal, the head of Hamas and has also attended a Hamas rally and publicly blamed the United States for the 9/11 attacks.  Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs reported that Bary’s father officially dissolved his successful jewelry business days after her disappearance.

Postelnik made it clear that religion has nothing to do with this matter.  “Let me state that this is a particular case of extremism that has no bearing on the overall Islamic population.  There are many instances of Muslims standing up for human rights.”

Candidate for Florida House Proposes Changes to Law With Respect to the Rifqa Bary Case

Fort Lauderdale, FL   In response to the case of Rifqa Bary, an Ohio teenager who recently fled to Florida claiming that her father seeks to murder her in an “honor killing,”  Yomin Postelnik, a candidate for House District 91, has offered two proposals that he encourages the Florida Legislature to pursue; one aimed at changing Florida’s emancipation laws and the other establishing Florida’s jurisdiction in similar interstate cases.

Postelnik’s first proposal is to change the Florida Domestic Relations Code to allow minors 16 years of age and older who no longer reside with their natural or adoptive parents to file for emancipation, provided that they are be able to document adequate means to achieve self-sufficiency or should an adult of sufficient means be willing to sponsor the petition.  He also proposes to enact a statute establishing Florida’s jurisdiction in all cases in which a minor seeks refuge from parents who are members of an organization or house of worship whose leadership has advocated violence within the past ten years.

Florida’s emancipate law as laid out in Section 743.015 of the Florida Statutes is outdated,” said Postelnik.  “While preventing all minors from initiating emancipation petitions generally makes sense, more options must be made available for children who no longer reside with their parents.  Should they have other means to achieve self-sufficiency, the avenues available to them should expand accordingly.  It should be noted the courts would still have the final say and each side would be given ample opportunity to present their cases.  The only change is that minors who do not live with their parents would be allowed to file a petition without waiting for a guardian ad litem to initiate the process.”

With regard to Florida’s jurisdiction to try the case, Postelnik states that “although the judge has clear jurisdiction in the Bary case due to the fact that no proceedings were initiated in Ohio, this case brings to light the fact that similar children may be forced back to other jurisdictions even after fleeing to our state for safety.  The Legislature should pass a law asserting Florida’s jurisdiction in all family law cases in which one or more parties have ties with organizations whose leaders have advocated for violence within a ten year period.”

“With regard to the Bary case, Rifqa’s parents are members of the Noor Islamic Cultural Center.  The Center was home to resident scholar Salah Sultan, who calls himself a ‘friend and pupil’ of avowed terror supporter and advocate of suicide bombings Yusuf Qaradawi.  Qaradawi is designated by the United States as a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist.’  Sultan most recently attended an event honoring Qaradawi where the two of them shared the stage with Khaled Mashaal, the head of Hamas.  Sultan has also attended a Hamas rally and has publicly blamed the United States for the 9/11 attacks.  It is deeply troubling that the Noor Center would choose this man as a resident scholar.  The Noor Center has also hosted Hassan Mohamud, another advocate of terror.  That is part of what makes this situation unique,” explains Postelnik.

He continues, “Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs rightly points out that Rifqa posted a message about her Christian beliefs on MySpace over two years ago. Her report that her father officially dissolved his successful jewelry business days after her disappearance, as well as reports of a previous instance of bruising add to the suspicious nature of this case and force all caring people to, at the very least, err on the side of caution.”

Postelnik, the first openly observant Jewish candidate on the state level, made it clear that religion has nothing to do with this matter.  “Let me state that this is one particular case of extremism that has no bearing on the overall Islamic population.  There are many, many instances of Muslims standing up for human rights.  The student movement in Iran is just one example, and while Iran’s political class since 1979, including Mir Hossein Mousavi, have a long history of extremism, thousands upon thousands of students, journalists, editors and other activists have a strong reformist heritage and a deep seated pride in their Persian roots.  Turkey has an even greater history, one of tolerance that goes as far back as the middle ages.  It should be noted that the life of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, flies in the face of the extremism practiced by radicals.  This case is about Rifqa Bary and the extremist mosque attended by her parents.”

Postelnik praises the work of Attorney General Bill McCollum on this case, through the Department of Children and Families, as well as the statement made to the presiding judge by Governor Charlie Crist and the public statement and call to action sent out en masse by former Speaker Marco Rubio.  He asks that all state officials do whatever they can to assist this girl and to safeguard human rights.

Friends,

Let's all wish Yomin a happy birthday!

Yomin was born toward the beginning of the Carter administration. Then, like now, a new generation of conservative leaders were being cultivated and began to stand up against the attack on our values and the then prevailing views of the left. In a few short years, the tables had turned.

Yomin's campaign of effective and outspoken conservative representation is taking the district by storm. He has already amassed a number of national endorsements and his detailed arguments on behalf of conservatism have received more attention than those of almost any other candidate for state level office anywhere in the nation. Last but not least, his plan to monitor our shores against terror make this campaign a truly national issue (in truth, so do his educational and criminal rehabilitation plans, as does his rallying cry that taxes are a family values issue).

Here's what you can do today on Yomin's birthday:

1) Go to http://www.abetterflorida.com/Donate.html and donate $10, $20, $50, $100 or $500 to the campaign that represents the fight for conservatism in action. Every donation is appreciated and is a great birthday present to send to Yomin.

2) Invite your friends to join the facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=188638315561.

Thank you and again, let's all wish Yomin much success on his birthday to fight for the values that we hold dear and let's go forward together in standing up for America and for the values that have made this nation great.

Thanks!

Leah Postelnik

About Yomin's Campaign:

08/18/09

The job of a representative is to represent his or her constituents.  This is true on both the state as well as the federal level.  Yet while our state representative continues to work tirelessly for the needs of the district, our United States congressman has taken a different path.  In so doing, he has given me an example of exactly what kind of representative I will not be, not now and not ever.

A week or so ago, a rally took place to demand that Ron Klein listen to the overwhelming views of his constituents.  Hundreds of seniors attended to voice their concerns.  The congressman has yet to address his constituents or even to show up in the district.  By contrast, his opponent, Lt. Col. Allen West, took the initiative and is holding a town hall meeting tonight in the part of the federal district (District 22) that includes State District 91.

As a citizen, as a resident of the State of Florida and as a candidate for Florida House of Representatives, I must make the following clear:  Based on the actions of Congressman Klein and the contrasting leadership displayed by his opponent, while Ron Klein may be my congressman by virtue of his official title, Allen West is the true “representative” of the district.  And it is his example of leadership that I pledge to live up to should I receive the honor of representing you on a state level.

Public opinion polls show what we’ve always known: That Americans want their doctors, not government bureaucrats, guiding their healthcare decisions.  The attempt to ration care and, specifically, to place the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in charge of what treatments doctors can and cannot pursue for their patients, has reminded Americans that conservatism, not radical socialism disguised as big government liberalism, is where compassion and common sense lie.

Even the media has finally been forced to report on the public outcry against socialized so-called “medicine.”  If the TV media were this slow to report on non-agenda based items, you’d hear “Tea Dumped in Boston” or “Shots Fired at Fort Sumter, Breaking News at 11,” as a preamble to this week’s nightly news, but that’s a different story.

The effort to protect healthcare and prevent government takeover and rationing of our medical system is an essential one, and it is one that must interest every candidate running for office, on both the state and national level.

I WILL DEFEND THE NEEDS OF OUR DISTRICT, ESPECIALLY WITH REGARD TO HEALTHCARE

Healthcare isn’t a campaign issue for me.  It’s a human rights issue, plain and simple.  My advocacy against socialized medicine predates the time that this became a campaign issue and it will continue long after it has ceased to be the talk of the day.  Here are two of the articles that I penned when the healthcare debate first started to surface, before it became a hot button item:

Obama’s (and Apparently Newsweek’s) War on Seniors is in Full Swing, - Mar 16, 2009

Just How Low Have Democrats Sunk – Is Killing Seniors Now Not Beyond Limits? - Feb 10, 2009

I generally prefer a civil and thoughtful approach to policy.  But on all important issues of human rights, we need to call a spade a spade and an ill conceived plan that serves dogma, not patients, as the opportunistic power grab that it is, and the antithesis of healthy government.  People across the nation agree.  One of the above articles was second only to an op-ed by the former Lt. Gov. of New York, Betsy McCaughey, in terms of link backs over the internet.

Why is healthcare so important?  Because it speaks to what our priorities are as a society.  Do we believe in a competitive system that drives healthcare providers to be their very best, coupled with a social safety net for those who truly cannot afford, or are we a society that has a narrow minded focus on governmental bureaucracy designed to ration resources and favor only the ends of government.  Proponents of socialized medicine deny that this is the case, yet they have no answer when confronted with the fact that in every nation where socialized medicine is the norm, care for the elderly is drastically reduced, cut and rationed.

Let us all ask the following question: Is healthcare something that should be provided as much as possible to all, especially to those who have worked for decades, those who make this nation and this state everything that it is, or is it simply another government program to protect the currently strong and vibran, while relegating all others to the backbenches?

I may not be a senior citizen.  But I do value our seniors for everything they have given us.  Moreover, I do not want to raise my children in a society that does not value senior citizens, our World War 2 veterans and those with decades of knowledge to bestow and accomplishments under their belts.

On a local level, Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff has taken a lead role in protecting quality healthcare for Florida’s senior citizens.  She is currently leading a review of all governmental agencies to streamline services and cut waste.  That’s representation in action.  I’m running to replace her in the seat that she is vacating and I’m well aware of the need to continue this record of dedicated representation and of common sense conservative solutions that work best for all.

That’s why I’ve made my cell phone accessible to everyone in the district.  That’s also part of the reason why I support the amendment put forward by Sen. Baker to protect Florida from Obamacare.

Yes, for now, Obama’s public option plan has been defeated.  But that’s only the first step in what has every indication of being a prolonged battle.  Already, the Obama team has gone back to the drawing board and is now discussing “co-opted” healthcare, another name for “public option.”  If these people were used car salesmen they’d tell you that the 1982 Lada they’re trying to peddle isn’t missing a motor, it just needs “a few replacement pieces here and there."  And if ever one has given a nation cause to want Hope and Change from the current administration, the Obama team has certainly done so.

THE SHAMEFUL ACTIONS OF RON KLEIN AND OF TODAY’S “DEMOCRATIC” PARTY

Nowhere to be found in the District is our federal “Representative” in name only, Congressman Ron Klein.

Congressman Klein has a narrow minded and dogmatic view of healthcare that is in direct opposition to the desires of many in his district.

Congressman Klein was only elected because he campaigned as a moderate.  His record has been anything but, yet he refuses to face his constituents or to explain why his actions do not match the seemingly moderate message that national Democrats promoted during the last election.  In fact, the tactics of today’s Democratic Party are a lesson in fraud that is almost unparalleled in recent times.

Democrats have campaigned as being in touch with the values and concerns of everyday Americans – and in so doing they have added a new meaning to the word “slick.”  National Democrats have not been in touch with the needs or concerns of everyday Americans since the time of Hubert Humphrey and they should stop pretending otherwise.  The callous disregard for the wellbeing of our seniors, our infirm and our nation is inexcusable and they must be voted out of office.

Klein was elected to the US House of Representatives, not the House of Klein.  He is not mindful of this fact.  Fortunately, his opponent Allen West is.

I am running to represent a large portion of the district that Klein does, on a state level.  I will not emulate him.  I will offer true and honest representation.  Most of all, I will be mindful of the fact that I was not elected to the House of Yomin.  I will be elected to the Florida House of Representatives and my job will be to represent the interests of my constituents, not the interests of myself, of Ron Klein or those of failed liberal ideological dogma.

Sincerely,

Yomin Postelnik

Candidate for Florida House District 91

I Will Fight Against Government Rationing of Health Care!

I'M ASKING YOU TO JOIN ME IN THIS FIGHT!  HERE'S WHY:

The issues before us are vast.  On the state level, we can and must work to curb the excesses of government.  We must also win back the battle of ideas, and this must be accomplished by fighting for hearts and minds on a local level.

The positions that we as Republicans advocate for are correct.  We need only to advocate for them more effectively.  A local representative can provide a voice on the issues by explaining the benefits of time tested conservative solutions and by demonstrating the fallacy of the feel-good, yet ineffective ones, offered by the other side.

The reason I'm running for State Representative is simple.  Failed dogmas have been allowed to take hold on every continent of our globe because local leaders have failed to articulate their sound beliefs.

Had local politicians and civic leaders risen up against socialism in Chile in the late 1960s or in Venezuela in the early 1990s, government micromanagement of people's lives in those nations would not have come about.  Local officials must raise the rallying cry against the advocacy of seductive yet harmful policies and against the demagoguery that has increasingly become the hallmark of today's political left.  This is especially true with regard to the all important area of health care.

Our nation is in need of solutions if we are to continue to remain strong and vibrant.  The answers are clearer than one would be led to believe and are routed in common sense and in a willingness to do what is right.

My campaign platform is a recipe for good governance and for our continued strength and prosperity.  I'd ask you to take a few minutes to review it at http://abetterflorida.com/Policy_Platform.html.

MY PLEDGE TO SENIORS AND TO MY CONSTITUENTS

Socialized medicine has become the talk of the day.  This is not only unfortunate, it is harmful and we have a responsibility to speak out.

Socialized medicine has led to a drastic reduction in services and in quality of care in every nation it's been tried.

The typical wait for hip surgery in Canada is 14 months.

In Canada's Province of Quebec, patients in need of a 30 minute procedure to cure urinary tract infections are on a three year waiting list!

Children with significant hearing problems are denied access to cochlear implants.

Arthritis treatment in the United Kingdom has a waiting period of up to nine months.  Also in the UK, a 22 year old man just passed away because the government refused to allow him to receive a liver transplant.

Is this the so-called compassion inherent in socialized medicine?!  In a word, yes.

Patients across the spectrum are denied access to thousands of necessary medications, which are deemed "too costly" or "unnecessary" by non-doctor bureaucrats.

We cannot and will not allow this type of devastation to reach South Florida.  Our seniors deserve better.  The infirm deserve better and society as a whole deserves better.

Can health care by fought on a state level?

You bet it can!

But I need your help to do it.

All issues can be fought in the battle of ideas.  State representatives, especially, have a responsibility to speak out on any issue that affects their constituents.

More specifically, there are measures that we can take on the state level to protect our vibrant and competitive healthcare system.

Florida's economy relies heavily on our seniors and on continued migration to the State.  For these conditions to continue, access to the quality health care that stems from a competitive system is a must.

Most of all, protecting health care options for seniors is a sacred trust.  These options are only available under a competitive system that at least attempts to force doctors and hospitals to be at their best.

I understand that we must make health care affordable.  But we don't have to throw the proverbial fish out with the tub or resort to governmental micromanagement of our healthcare system to get it right.

A large part of the massive cost of health care, and the main reason that our system is failing, is because government health programs like Medicare are caving over due to the size of their bureaucracy.  We can streamline costs and augment care by simply doing away with much of the red tape.  That's not a solution, but it's an important ingredient in any viable plan to fix the system.

Republicans and Democrats agree that the current health care system has become too complex, too bureaucratic and woefully inefficient.  Like the tax code, no matter what side of the political aisle you are on, all agree on the need for simplification and for less bureaucracy.

Cutting unneeded red tape and focusing on necessary and effective oversight should be a prime goal of fixing the health care system.   If government would simply concentrate on being effective rather than being large, it would be amazing what we could accomplish in all areas of society.

Governors throughout the nation are shocked by the trillion dollar costs of the proposed federal bill, much of which is being passed on to the states.  Governors like Bill Richardson, who is certainly no political foe of Barack Obama, have expressed shock at the amount that the latest healthcare bill would cost, especially its cost to the states.

And as we look for solutions, let this much be clear:

Government run healthcare is government rationed healthcare.... and it helps no one!

Socialized medicine is as failed a doctrine as is socialism itself.  It needs to be fought and I am committed to leading the fight on our local level, right here in our district.

Right now, I am asking you to join me in this fight.

In the coming weeks, my campaign will be hosting a conference on the dangers of socialized medicine.  We won't just be pointing out problems.  We'll be proposing real solutions and alternatives that ensure affordable coverage outside of the proposed government run care and outside of the rationing and mismanagement that comes with it.

Most of all, we will look to keep competitive options available to Florida's seniors and families regardless of what the federal government does.  Good health care, complete with competitive market based options that force providers to offer the best care available, is worth protecting.  The future of Florida's health and economy depend on it.

And right now, I'm asking you to send a contribution to my campaign, so that we can fight effectively against ineffective socialist monstrosities such as universal socialized medicine.

Your donation of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or any amount up to $500 per individual will make you a partner in the fight to keep our budgets in line and to make sure that Florida does not fall prey to new government waste.  Your contribution also makes you a partner in ensuring the availability of strong health care options for all Floridians, in the same spirit that this campaign is fighting for comprehensive educational reform, rehabilitative justice reform and common sense homeland security.

On all issues, we will provide real common sense conservative solutions that bring true improvements to society, not another socialized bureaucratic mess or a fiscal nightmare that all taxpayers are forced to bear the brunt of.

Please donate $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or any amount up to $500 now by going to www.abetterflorida.com/donate.html and let's fight this battle together!

Thank you!

Yomin Postelnik

Three Endorsements That Speak to the Broad Appeal of This Campaign

Dear Friends and Supporters,

On behalf of Yomin, we are  honored and humbled to announce the endorsements of three prominent conservative leaders.

Jason Lyons served as economic advisor to Mitt Romney.  He is also the Jewish Community Liason for the Palm Beach Republican Executive Committee.  He has proudly endorsed Yomin Postelnik for House District 91.

His endorsement was gladly followed by Pedro A. Delgado Sr., head of the League of Conservative Citizens and a key organizer for Mike Huckabee in both the last presidential cycle and this one.  He recognizes Yomin's commitment to family values, sound economic policy and commitment to education reform.

Dr. Bill Smith, National Director of Let's Get This Right/Conservative Solutions, has also announced his endorsement of Yomin Postelnik.  Dr. Smith's organization led both the McCain blogging effort as well as a grassroots effort to elect solid Republicans to Congress in 2008.

We are equally proud of these three prominent endorsements as well as each of those that have come from so many voters throughout the District.

What has caused these three conservative leaders and countless voters in District 91 and beyond to endorse Yomin's campaign?

Maybe it's because Yomin is the first Republican candidate in the nation to announce that "taxes are a family values issue,"  explaining that lower taxes allow families to afford education, feed their families and pay their mortgage.

Maybe it's because Yomin is the first and only person running for public office in the nation who has raised the rallying cry that our shores must be monitored with the greatest degree of surveillance, as they are truly our frontline in the war on terror.

Or maybe it's because he's the first candidate to publicly declare that education and criminal justice reform, including the use of short but effective alternative sentences, are needed to stop the spread of terror, as well as to curb crime.  As Yomin says, implementing those policies are also the right thing to do, and when we do the right thing, we achieve the best results.

Why conservative leaders and voters across the political spectrum are supporting Yomin's campaign is a question that has several different answers.  What we do know is that in Yomin Postelnik, the GOP has a candidate who knows the needs of the District and who will fight to see them implemented.

We also know that in Yomin Postelnik, the GOP has a candidate who has effectively countered liberal spin and innuendo with solid facts and sound plans for a very long time.  His columns have been featured on American Thinker, American Daily, Canada Free Press, ADR and other noteable conservative websites and publications.  For years, Yomin Postelnik has proposed bold solutions that are rooted in common sense.  Now let him bring that same leadership to Tallahassee on behalf of the voters of District 91.

Get involved in this campaign today.

But is Yomin's candidacy only good news for conservatives?  No.  His message is that of common sense and the championing of sorely needed improvements that can be appreciated by all Floridians.

As someone who saw a problem with high school dropout rates and therefore wrote a motivational course that teens can relate to, Yomin is uniquely positioned to effect needed educational reform.   His judicial reform policies will also go a long way in preventing recidivism and juvenile delinquency.  His rallying cry to protect our shores from terror, at a time when both parties are only concerned with border security, speaks for itself (while Yomin is for critical and effective border security, he has accurately pinpointed an even larger security problem, one that has been universally ignored throughout the country, outside of his campaign).

People across the ideological spectrum have come to recognize that Yomin Postelnik is a man with answers, with bold solutions and with the wherewithall to see them through.

Please join with Yomin in our fight to lower property taxes, to grow small business, to assure comprehensive education reform and to safeguard Florida's shores from terror.

Please get involved - Volunteer or donate today.

Thank you and let's go forward together for a better Florida and a better tomorrow with Yomin Postelnik.

Sincerely,

Jeff Simon

Instilling the Values of America's Greatest Generation in the Youth of Today

Remarks by Yomin Postelnik, Candidate for Florida House of Representatives District 91, June 09, 2009

Highlights:

  • The lessons of America's Greatest Generation
  • American Exceptionalism - America has nothing to apologize to the world for.  On the contrary, America changed the world for the better in ways that are immeasurable.
  • Connecting youth with the elderly is essential to raising a new generation of Americans who will recognize the accomplishments of our American past and who will therefore see the need to continue the fight for human rights and American decency.
  • Comprehensive educational reform is the only way to achieve these goals.
  • National security is a human rights issue and education is both a national security and a human rights issue.

Today we stand in between the commemoration of two earth changing events that both took place in June of 1944.  On June 6, Allied nations the world over honored the remembrance of D-Day, or of "Operation Overlord" as it was then called, and the Allied landing in Western Europe.  June 15 also commemorates a key milestone in the war, as United States troops began an amphibious assault on the Japanese held island of Saipan in the Marianas.

These two events bring to the forefront the courage of those who have long been referred to as America's Greatest Generation.  They demonstrate American excellence and stand as testaments to our rightful place as a force for good throughout the rest of the world.  The determination of our troops to do what is right on far off shores led to a safer world and spread the principles of kindness and decency the world over.

The lasting impression that the United States of America has made on world society is an accomplishment that should be recognized and honored, not one that should be apologized.  The Greatest Generation's struggle for human rights would spread throughout the world the simple but essential concept that every individual is entitled to a life of decency.  America's noble quest to ensure that all who are born with inalienable rights, endowed by our Creator, are able to live lives of fulfillment and accomplishment, stands as a record of achievement that we as a nation can be proud of.  Needless to say, we as a nation have nothing to apologize for.

THE GREATEST GENERATION WENT ON TO CHANGE HUMANITY

The brave vanquishers of Nazism and those who stopped the spread of Communism in its tracks went home and changed our world forever.  They were the ones who truly led the struggle for civil rights in the 1950s and early 1960s.  And with the help of their elders, most notably that of our last general president, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, they achieved racial equality and eventually spread that concept the world over.

Eisenhower's actions were cemented by his two successors, as Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, both members of the Greatest Generation, pursued the struggle for civil rights, robust national security and fought the totalitarian oppression that was communism.  In so doing, they brought American values to peoples across the globe.  Their struggle is continued today in the global war on terror.  And let us make no mistake, the war on terror is a struggle for human rights if ever there was one.

The World War Two generation is America's greatest generation.  The fact that, today, racism is universally condemned is due to their efforts.  America has led as an example time and time again, thanks to the efforts of that unique generation.

If we are to remain a force for good, if we are to recognize our unique achievements as a nation and use those achievements as springboards to continue to defend and promote the rights of humanity a world over, we must remain connected to the ideals of that generation.  If we are to continue to recognize that America has nothing to apologize for, we must pay tribute to those who served this nation, and the world, so valiantly.

INSPIRING OUR YOUTH

The youth of today need to have personal experiences with our greatest generation.  Only then can we ensure that they grow up having a personal feel for the American exceptionalism so exemplified by those who fought in the Second World War.  Only then can they recognize the need to fight for American ideals, wherever that struggle may lead them.  And only then can they recognize that the concept that each of us are endowed with rights bestowed by our Creator is what makes America the force for good that was so exemplified by those who we refer to as our Greatest Generation.

Only by teaching our youth the ideals and struggles of our greatest generation can we hope for them to continue to be leading forces for good in the world.  These concepts cannot be transmitted impersonally and without feeling.  Our youth need to be exposed to the first hand experiences of those who risked their lives to fight against a cruel set of principles or against enemies sworn to destruction and world domination.  Our children need to learn the dangers of racism and the real struggles and sacrifice of those who fought for equality in the 1950s and early 1960s, when the real hard work was done, not some glamorized version of that era.

Youth gain from volunteering.  Study after study has shown that volunteerism leads to increased civic awareness, a higher graduation rate and decreased crime, truancy and substance abuse.

When volunteering is coupled with time spent with the elderly, the benefits are twofold.  And in today's day and age, fostering a connection with the elderly is essential.  That is why my platform has called for the implementation of intergenerational programs as part of existing high school and middle school community service programs.  This missing ingredient in our educational system is necessary for us to continue to grow as a nation.

EDUCATION FIRST AND FOREMOST

This week, as we commemorate D-Day and the Allied landing on Japan's fortress islands, we have received some very unsettling news in the field of education.  Graduation rates of students in South Florida have fallen to below 58%.  That is more than 10% below the national average.

Connecting youth with our elderly is a needed ingredient in the solution, but it is only a first step.  Similarly, the financial literacy course that I authored and that is a key part of my platform is also a needed ingredient, as it focuses youth on their long term goals and shows them what staying in school and away from crime can really mean for their futures.  These are needed partial answers, but the complete solution is far more complex.

To that end, we must strengthen our educational system by refocusing efforts on developing highly skilled teachers.  Many within South Florida's business community are in the process of transitioning from one industry or another and recruiting the most qualified of them as teachers can have a positive effect on our educational system.

BEYOND STANDARDIZED TESTING

Most importantly, we must refocus educational priorities on teaching to the individual student.  Standardized tests were a necessary first step in preventing the continued graduation of illiterates, but they were designed as a temporary fix, to be built upon once properly implemented.  We are long overdue for the next phase of educational improvement.

As we go forward, we must give leeway to teachers to teach to the individual needs of each student.  Teachers who serve as role models, who take time out of their breaks to help students during recess or after hours should be rewarded for their efforts and school boards should be mandated to actively recruit quality teachers.

Standardized tests are still needed to ensure a basic level of competency, but teaching to the test should be replaced with teaching to the student and the curriculum should reflect this philosophy.  To begin with, shortening test material while not sacrificing quality would help immensely in forming a new and balanced approach to education.

These changes would not cost more to taxpayers and do not involve throwing more money at the system.  They would be the result of thoughtful allocation of funding.  We would spend smarter and more effectively and teachers would have a greater say in curriculum development.

Finally, the combination of hands on teaching, financial wellness training and volunteer work with the elderly would breed a growing generation who would be proud and able to carry forward the best traditions of America.  Many of our military families, who live and display these values to their children, already do this and it's time for the public school system to be allowed to catch up.

EDUCATION IS A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE - IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE

Education can teach a child the need to stand up for human rights and against tyranny no matter what the cost.  But a proper educational foundation also serves as the greatest deterrent of juvenile crime.  This is another reason why improving education is a key part of my platform.

My platform calls for proactive national security.  It calls for increased guarding of our ports.  It stresses the fact that labor sentences prevent non-violent offenders from becoming career criminals and the need to end long sentences that have allowed radical Jihadists to recruit dejected and hopeless prisoners.

But as we discuss the need for shorter swift labor sentences that actually enforces the message that crime has consequences in a humane way that leaves the offender with hope of leading a better life, let us not lose sight of the fact that the best defense against crime and the spiraling cycle of violence to which it leads is accomplished by providing youth with a quality and real life education.

Education is not the sole deterrent to crime.  I recognize this.  In fact, one of my initiatives involves developing a dialogue between youth who live in higher crime areas within the district and their local police force.  But education is by far the most sweeping tool that we have against crime.

No matter how you look at it, education is the most valuable tool for the success of a nation.  Instilling in our youth the best of our values, those exemplified by our Greatest Generation who risked their lives in pursuit of a better world, can only be accomplished by connecting our youth to their past.  They must learn firsthand from those who were inspired by America, by its Judeo-Christian values and by the determination of American men and women to stand up against the forces of tyranny and oppression wherever they reared their ugly heads.

It is this sense of greatness that we must preserve as a nation.  And education, motivation and connection to our seniors are the only ways to accomplish this necessary goal.

Thank you.

Local Reaction as Keechl Declines to Run for Florida House After Postelnik Announces Republican Bid

Jun. 2, 2009
Topix of Coconut Creek
News and Information

Broward County Commissioner Ken Keechl announced late last week that he would not seek the Democratic nomination for the District 91 seat in the Florida House of Representatives, a run that until then had widely been expected.  The announcement came less than two days after Republican Yomin Postelnik announced his candidacy for the seat being vacated by current Representative Ellyn Bogdanoff.  Bogdanoff is running for the Florida Senate and is the clear frontrunner to replace State Senator Jeff Atwater, who announced his bid for State Chief Financial Officer late last month.

When Bogdanoff, a former foster mother with extensive community ties outside of the political realm, announced that she was leaving the seat, Republicans seemed hard pressed to find a candidate with a similar record of involvement in the District.  But Postelnik's candidacy brings with it a series of accomplishments for the community at large.

In 2006, Postelnik authored a financial wellness curriculum that was later approved by the Broward School Board Superintendent's committee and adopted by the United Way and other agencies.  He and his wife Leah are former foster parents who adopted their oldest child.  Postelnik also has fairly extensive campaign experience, having managed and worked on several campaigns on the federal and statewide levels.

According to John Labriola, a former elected Democratic committeeman and top volunteer for numerous campaigns, there is a reason for Democrats like Keechl to forgo any attempt at taking the seat.  It's the same reason that has caused Labriola to now volunteer for Postelnik. "Democrats didn't count on someone with the extensive level of community involvement that Yomin Postelnik brings to the table.  His achievements give him a lot of bipartisan support, that he's able to get without compromising his principles," he said.

Greater Pompano Beach Republican Club President Carol Waldrop gives another reason for the perceived strength of Postelnik's candidacy.  As she put it, "I see why Ken Keechl would not want to run against a candidate like Yomin Postelnik.  As the only openly observant Jewish candidate in the race, Yomin's candidacy dispels many of the notions that Democrats have often played upon in order to get minority votes.  Yomin's candidacy presents a huge problem for any Democrat in the race."

Postelnik has made education a key part of his platform, which includes proposals for financial wellness and job skills training in the classroom.  Nor is he shying away from his affiliations in the District, making his involvement with local non-profits a key part of his stated credentials.

Postelnik had hammered the last point in recent days.  Speaking to a group of supporters at Waldrop's Republican club prior to Keechl's announcement Postelnik said, "it's not enough to say that you want to represent the District.  If you want to be an effective representative, you need to have a track record of real accomplishments in your district.  You need to know the issues and concerns of your area first hand in order to come up with plausible solutions that actually help instead of doing more damage.  If you don't know the problems through first hand experience, if you haven't been in constant contact with those who are on the frontline of finding solutions, you can't possibly know how to advocate or to properly advance any of the vital concerns facing our District."

At the meeting, Postelnik seemed to be directing his remarks at Ken Keechl, who he had described as "having one of the thinnest records of public service of any official in the County."  When asked now for comment on Keechl's decision not to run for State House, Postelnik stated "I wish him well and look forward to hearing from all current and former government officials.  I believe that all can provide perspective on the needs of the District."  Keechl is still expected to face a stiff election challenge, with rumors of Republicans running a candidate with extensive and long lasting South Florida ties against him for County Commission as well.

A Platform for Florida - A Trust to District 91

Dear Supporters,

Please take a few minutes to review my platform.

It calls for comprehensive property tax reform, so that the foreclosure crisis is not exacerbated by unsustainable property tax rates.

It calls for the Florida Department of Military Affairs, law enforcement and emergency management to take a stepped up role in guarding our coasts, so that none who seek to harm America gain entry through our ports or along our coasts.

It calls for comprehensive educational reform and the implementation of life skills training in the classroom, so that high school students graduate knowing the benefits that setting aside savings can mean for them and for their families.

It calls for criminal justice reform so that we stop making career criminals out of non-risk offenders.

It calls for protection for and proper recognition of our seniors.

And it is meant to serve as an inspirational call for a return to a values based society.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE PLATFORM HERE

The platform is a long one, as far as platforms on candidate websites go, because even though it is only meant to touch on a few select points, there are no easy answers.  Principled leadership demands detail.

I would also like to bring attention to a citizen initiative to lower property taxes that is currently underway.  The proposed ammendment would cap property taxes at 1.35%, while keeping in place all current exemptions.

I believe that this is a good start and I would support such an amendment.  But I also believe that it is only a start.  A fairer system must be devised, preferably one that would transfer the tax burden off of homeowners and renters (who have these taxes passed on to them in the form of increased rent) and on to non-essential goods and luxury items.

On all issues, we must continue the legacy of competence that Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff has made as the hallmark of her public service.  And we must continue the hard fight for fiscal responsibility, common sense and traditional values, the bedrock of any society.

The fight will only get tougher.  Already, a movement is underway to raise state taxes to meet the new expenses that come part in parcel with the federal bailout.  Some even propose a state income tax, something that would devastate Florida's economy by removing a key advantage that we possess in comparison to our neighbors.

I will fight.  As a columnist who has fought for and who has articulated the value of conservatism with depth, logic and common sense, as someone who singlehandedly wrote a course on financial life skills and had it adopted by the Broward County School Board, as a citizen who has advocated for the special needs community and who has developed sustainable programs for adolescents with special needs, I bring to the table a record of competence, honesty and dedication.

I will serve you well.  But like all political candidates, to make this happen, I need your help.

And I am asking for your involvement today.

I'm in this race and in this fight! - Yomin Postelnik for Florida House 91

Dear Friends and Dear Supporters,

I’ve decided to run for Florida State House because we need principled and dedicated leadership.  We need state representatives who aren’t afraid to stand up and fight the tough battles, even if they have to take their case directly to the media and even if they have to challenge prevailing public opinion.

We need someone who knows what they’re doing, who stands by his or her principles and who doesn’t run for office unless they have a platform.

My candidacy isn’t about a single issue.  It’s a rallying cry for a better Florida and for a better tomorrow.  It’s detailed and it’s designed to do what we should do: to effectively address the issues that most need addressing.

More than that:  It’s about fighting for common sense values, protecting our citizens and growing our economy.

My platform is clear, yet extensive.  And the reason it’s extensive is because there are a number of issues that threaten our way of life and any reputable candidate needs to stand up and attack them.

On property taxes – 18 months ago, our elected representatives fought for needed property tax reform and got it on the ballot. But the initiative was then blocked by an unelected judge.  That judge, who must only face the electors in an up or down vote on whether to retain him, is responsible for more foreclosures in this state than likely any other judge in the nation.

And so, when I get to the Legislature, with your help and prayers, I will fight once again for meaningful property tax reform.  And if an unelected judge legislates from the bench and cancels the democratically passed proposal, I will call out his actions to the entire state.

On security – We all know about the need to ramp up border security, but we seem to have turned a blind eye on protecting our seacoast from terrorist infiltration.  If we have indeed forgotten our coasts, we must realize that those who seek this nation harm have not.  National security is not only a federal issue.  States can and must secure their coastlines and I will be mindful of that every day as your representative.  I’ll fight so that no one seeking to harm America will be able to come near the coast of Florida.

Our seniors – Seniors are a pillar of the South Florida economy.  They are also our most treasured citizens.  They are our parents, our grandparents and they are those who made this nation what it is.  We must end elder abuse and we must make sure that a private healthcare system that’s effective and low cost is available to them, as socialized medicine has been a disaster, especially for seniors, in every country where it’s been tried.

Our schools – We must motivate our children and teach to them, not at them.  My campaign has several crucial education initiatives, starting with a financial literacy course that I wrote to motivate teens to stay in school and out of crime in a way that they can relate to.  More on that below.

Another area of youth development will be to steer high school community service programs toward work with the elderly so that students can gain from those with decades of experience and seniors gain the opportunity to mentor our youth.

We must also look to radically change the criminal justice system to make it fairer and far more effective at rehabilitation.  The studies are in that show how to do so effectively.  The issue is also important to national security as terrorist recruitment in prisons has been widely documented.

Last, but first in priority, we must change conditions for small businesses, the bedrock of our jobs and the livelihood of our families.  I have laid out certain solutions in this area as well.  For this announcement, suffice it to say that massive bailouts to failing giants while allowing small business to twist in the wind makes about as much sense as allowing Jeffery Dahmer to direct a UN food program.

It’s wrong.  And I will fight it!

All in all, this campaign is about a better Florida, and it’s about electing a fighter who will speak his mind and who won’t back down.

And…. I will beat whoever the Democrats nominate like a drum.

It looks like Chris Chiari is considering running yet again for the District 91 seat.  Well, that’s interesting because one of his former volunteers is on my team.  He quit Chiari after the latter saw him in a “Democrats for McCain” shirt and started cursing at him for it.

I wouldn’t talk to my opponents that way, much less my volunteers.  That’s not the kind of person we need in public office and I will work tirelessly so that the contrasts between him and I are as clear as night and day.  I will serve you well.

Democrats are also talking about putting Ken Keechl in the race.  Well, that’s interesting too.

Just a couple of years ago, as a then 29 year old businessman, I looked at the graduation rates in some parts of Broward County and decided to write a course that would teach teens the difference that putting aside savings, finishing school and staying away from crime and drugs can make in their lives.

Several city commissioners volunteered to take a lead role in promoting the course.  The United Way adopted the course for use in their program for graduating foster kids.  But guess which new County Commissioner refused to take any part in the course, not because he didn’t want to but because he couldn’t be bothered?  You guessed it.

That’s not the kind of public service we should be promoting with advancement to higher office!  And if we keep electing Keechls and Chiaris then we won’t have to wonder why we’re up a creek without a paddle as far as government is concerned.

And if either of them enter the race, I will beat them like a drum.

But right now I need you to stand with me for Florida’s future.

I need your help, I need your involvement and I need you to take a role in this race today.

We have a chance to stand up for common sense conservative values.  I will always tell you what I mean.  I will always be honest with you.  I will always take the case for what’s right to the media and over the heads of the media directly to the people.  But to do that, right now I need your help!

Get involved by emailing info@abetterflorida.com or calling (954) 353-5955.

I urge you to visit my website, read my platform and my background.  Also look at why I’m (somewhat reluctantly) giving my cell phone number to everyone in the district.  Government needs to work for the people, and that means that those who run for office need to be accessible to the people, both before and after they’re elected.  So here’s my cell phone (954) 701-7167.  (There, I did it.)

Get involved today and thank you for your consideration,

Yomin
